Éric Lapointe

Born in Montreal in 1969, Éric Lapointe forged his path in Francophone rock, balancing hard‑rock energy with ballads in a more pop vein. After years on Quebec’s bar and small‑venue circuit, he brought his original repertoire to prominence in the mid‑1990s with the album Obsession (1994), marked by forthright writing and a gravelly, instantly identifiable voice. Invitez les vautours (1996) and À l’ombre de l’ange (1999) cemented his place on the Quebec scene, with a sound rooted in electric guitars and lyrics centered on relationships, excess, and male vulnerability. Through the 2000s, albums such as Coupable (2004) and Ma peau (2007) continued that trajectory while introducing more introspective shades to his work. On stage, Éric Lapointe toured widely across Quebec, appeared at numerous festivals, and collaborated with various Francophone songwriters and musicians. From the 2010s onward, his role as a coach on the TV show La Voix further broadened his audience and placed him in regular dialogue with a new generation of performers.
