Marjo

Active on the Quebec rock scene since the late 1970s, Marjo—born Marjolène Morin in Montreal—first made her mark as the singer for Corbeau, a francophone rock band noted for its high-energy live presence and straightforward lyrics. From the mid-1980s onward, she pursued a solo career in rock and pop rock, with a strong francophone singer-songwriter dimension. Her 1986 album "Celle qui va" set the course with guitar-driven textures and melodic choruses, followed by "Tant qu’il y aura des enfants" (1990) and "Bohémienne" (1995), which cemented a style where Marjo’s husky, expressive voice carries themes of independence, desire, and human relationships. She later explored bluesier hues and revisited her repertoire, notably with "Bootleg Blues" and the project "Marjo et ses hommes," in which she reinterprets her songs as duets with various singers. A staple of venues and festivals in Quebec, Marjo remains linked to francophone rock rooted in Quebec popular culture, blending riffs, ballads, and more intimate pieces over the decades.
