Emery

Formed in 2001 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Emery quickly relocated to Seattle, a move that placed them within the early-2000s American post-hardcore scene. The band developed a sound blending post-hardcore, melodic hardcore, emo and alternative rock, balancing sung choruses, more tense passages and an alternation of clean and screamed vocals. Emery released The Weak’s End in 2004 and The Question in 2005, two albums that established the foundations of their identity, before broadening their range on I’m Only a Man (2007) and ...In Shallow Seas We Sail (2009). After We Do What We Want in 2011, marked by a heavier approach, Emery continued despite several lineup changes, notably the return of Devin Shelton, and went through a period of independence with the BadChristian label. Emery then followed with You Were Never Alone (2015), Eve (2018), White Line Fever (2020) and Rub Some Dirt on It (2022). Around the core formed by Toby Morrell, Matt Carter and Josh Head, Emery has also explored acoustic formats and reworkings of their catalogue, while remaining active on the American rock, hardcore and emo circuits.
