Groove Armada

Formed in London in the mid-1990s, Groove Armada brings together producers and instrumentalists Tom Findlay and Andy Cato, who emerged from the British club scene. The duo first made a name for themselves on small labels and at the club nights they organized, before developing a sound at the crossroads of downtempo, house, big beat and electronic pop. With the albums Northern Star (1998) and Vertigo (1999), Groove Armada refined a blend of slow rhythms, pronounced basslines and soul or jazz samples, continued on Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) (2001) and Lovebox (2002), which were more dancefloor-oriented. Soundboy Rock (2007), followed by the darker, more synthetic turn of Black Light (2010) and White Light (2010), reflects a move toward more direct electronic songwriting while retaining song formats led by guest vocalists. Alternating between expanded live line-ups and DJ sets, Groove Armada moves between clubs, festival main stages and Balearic residencies, maintaining over time a recognizable identity within British electronic music, further synthesized on Edge of the Horizon (2020), which brings together several facets of their trajectory.
