gnash
Based in Los Angeles, American singer‑songwriter and producer Garrett Nash, known as gnash, belongs to an indie pop scene heavily influenced by hip‑hop and soft electronic music. Born in 1993 in the Los Angeles area, gnash began by mixing and streaming his early tracks online before self‑releasing the EPs “u” and “me” in 2015, followed by “us” in 2016, which established a format of short songs focused on vocals, intimate relationships and emotional health. His writing relies on a blend of melodic singing and spoken passages, slow tempos, understated synths and sometimes acoustic guitar, creating a minimalist backdrop for often introspective lyrics. Recurring collaborations with Olivia O’Brien helped place gnash on an international pop stage, where he went on to perform numerous concerts and tours. In 2019 the album “we” extended this aesthetic by structuring gnash’s universe around a first‑person narrative, between alternative pop, subdued R&B and melodic rap influences.
