Das Ich
Founded in Bayreuth, Bavaria, in 1989 around Stefan Ackermann and Bruno Kramm, Das Ich took shape within the German dark wave scene and contributed to the rise of Neue Deutsche Todeskunst, a movement blending dark electronics, expressionism and German-language songwriting. The duo, which also launched the Danse Macabre label, developed a gothic and industrial aesthetic informed by classical references, driving electronic rhythms and theatrical staging. After the Satanische Verse EP (1990), Das Ich released Die Propheten (1991), Staub (1994), then Egodram and Morgue (1998), the latter based on texts by Gottfried Benn. Anti'christ appeared in 2002, followed by the LAVA:Glut and LAVA:Asche installments in 2004 and Cabaret in 2006. Active on European gothic and industrial circuits, Das Ich also toured the United States from the mid-1990s. The project slowed following Stefan Ackermann’s health problems in the early 2010s, before concerts resumed, notably at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in 2013. The discography also includes the Kannibale EP (2008) and the album Fanal (2025).
