Death By Stereo

Formed in the late 1990s in Orange County, California, Death By Stereo continues the local hardcore punk tradition while incorporating a strong metal and melodic component. Centered on vocalist Efrem Schulz and a core of frequently changing musicians, the band develops a fast, aggressive sound marked by thrash‑like riffs, shouted choruses and more melodic passages, with lyrics addressing political tensions as well as social and personal issues. They gained attention with the album If Looks Could Kill, I’d Watch You Die (1999) and consolidated their place in the North American hardcore scene with Day of the Death (2001) and Into the Valley of Death (2003), released on labels specializing in punk and hardcore. Subsequent releases, notably Death for Life (2005), Death Is My Only Friend (2009), Black Sheep of the American Dream (2012) and We’re All Dying Just in Time (2020), show a band alternating between hardcore intensity, metal influences and more melodic incursions without abandoning a direct style of writing. Active on many stages across North America, Europe and South America, Death By Stereo is firmly embedded in a network of shows and tours where punk, hardcore and metal bands intersect, extending the hybrid aesthetic that characterizes their repertoire.
