Fabienne Thibeault

Born in Montreal in 1952, Fabienne Thibeault first established herself on the Quebec scene in the early 1970s, after her notable appearances at the Granby International Festival of Song, before developing a repertoire situated between French chanson, folk and pop. Her clear voice and direct interpretation place her within a Francophone tradition attentive to lyrics, with a marked fondness for narrative songs and the Quebec popular repertoire. Fabienne Thibeault notably recorded De laine et de bois in 1976, La Vie d'astheure in 1977 and Au doux milieu de nous in 1977, a work dedicated to Gilles Vigneault, while at the same time beginning her collaborations with artists such as Plume Latraverse and Sylvain Lelièvre. Her career takes an international dimension when she joins Starmania in 1978 in the role of Marie-Jeanne, a character associated with songs like Le Monde est stone or La Complainte de la serveuse automate. Settling in France from the mid-1980s onwards, Thibeault then pursues a career between personal albums, French-language tours and more thematic projects, including Conversations in 1980, Le Blues à Fabienne in 1982, Cœur voyageur in 1983, Sur ma voie in 1992, Québecoise in 1998, Made in Québec in 2004 and Autour de Fabienne in 2024. Over the decades, Thibeault has also worked with Luc Plamondon, Yves Duteil, Henri Salvador or Richard Cocciante, while remaining connected to a register of Francophone popular song nourished by her Quebecois and French ties.
