Everlast
Born Erik Schrody on Long Island and associated early with the Los Angeles scene, Everlast has built since the late 1980s a career at the crossroads of hip‑hop, blues, folk rock and urban‑tinged acoustic rock. After a first solo album, Forever Everlasting (1990), within Ice‑T’s Rhyme Syndicate circle, Everlast formed House of Pain with DJ Lethal and Danny Boy, a trio that left its mark on early‑1990s American rap with raw energy and links to alternative scenes. When House of Pain split, Everlast shifted his songwriting and with Whitey Ford Sings the Blues (1998) established a more sung approach, blending guitars, slow beats, rap phrasing and social storytelling in a stripped, rough style. This direction continued on Eat at Whitey’s (2000), White Trash Beautiful (2004), Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford (2008), Songs of the Ungrateful Living (2011), The Life Acoustic (2013) and Whitey Ford’s House of Pain (2018). In parallel, Everlast collaborated with Santana on 'Put Your Lights On' and later joined La Coka Nostra, confirming a trajectory that durably links rap, rock and American song without confining itself to a single frame.
