Enrico Pieranunzi

Born in Rome, Italy, in 1949, Enrico Pieranunzi has, since the 1970s, developed a career in which classical training and jazz culture advance side by side. A pianist and composer, he operates in a register ranging from bop to post‑bop, with a pianistic approach marked by lyricism, clarity of phrasing, supple harmonies and a constant attention to melody. Very active as a soloist, in duo and especially in trio, he has built an extensive discography on the Italian and international scenes, while collaborating over time with musicians such as Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Charlie Haden, Marc Johnson and Joey Baron. Pieranunzi’s work is not limited to club jazz: it also includes pieces for ensembles, chamber music and film scores, extending an aesthetic in which improvisation remains linked to a precise formal architecture. Present at festivals, concert halls and European clubs for several decades, he conveys a language where the tradition of American jazz piano meets Italian musical sensibility.
