D-A-D
Formed in Copenhagen in the early 1980s, D-A-D first made their mark on the Danish scene under the name Disneyland After Dark with a blend of cowpunk, energetic rock and offbeat humour, before permanently adopting the acronym D-A-D at the end of the decade. Around singer/guitarist Jesper Binzer, guitarist Jacob “Cobber” Binzer and bassist Stig Pedersen, the band developed a sound that gradually shifted toward a heavier, more melodic hard rock, driven by direct riffs and structured choruses. After the early albums Call of the Wild (1986) and D.A.D. Draws a Circle (1987), D-A-D reached an international audience with No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims (1989) and continued through the 1990s with Riskin’ It All (1991) and Helpyourselfish (1995), marking a darker, heavier turn. Drummer Peter Lundholm Jensen’s departure and Laust Sonne’s arrival in the late 1990s ushered in a new phase embodied by Everything Glows (2000), followed by a series of records exploring more modern shades of rock up to A Prayer for the Loud (2019), while the band remained a strong presence on European stages and at festivals.
