Crazy Cousinz
Based in London and connected to the recent history of British club music, Crazy Cousinz is the name under which Flukes produces work that sits between UK garage, syncopated house, UK funky, R&B and, more recently, afrobeats influences. Initially associated with London garage, Crazy Cousinz came to the fore as UK funky emerged, focusing on percussion, supple basslines and vocals that maintain a strong link to the garage vocal tradition. The track Do You Mind remains one of the most identifiable pieces from that period and gained renewed exposure when Drake sampled it for One Dance in 2016. Alongside releases under the Crazy Cousinz name, Flukes has also produced for other artists, notably Tinie Tempah. The project has since evolved toward forms more open to exchanges between British and African scenes, as on No Way with Lily McKenzie, Yxng Bane and Mr Eazi, where Crazy Cousinz blends club pulse, R&B singing and an afro-pop touch without breaking its roots in London’s urban music.
