The Riptide Movement

Formed in 2006 in Lucan, west of Dublin, The Riptide Movement brings together Malachy Tuohy, John Dalton, Gerry McGarry and Gar Byrne around a rock nourished by folk and blues, with a pronounced taste for direct choruses, rugged guitars and songwriting rooted in the Irish and Anglo-Saxon tradition. The group first built itself on stage, between busking in Dublin, stints in London and tours in Ireland and then Europe, before releasing What About the Tip Jars? in 2009, followed by Keep On Keepin' On in 2012. The Riptide Movement then widened its audience with Getting Through in 2014, released after signing with Universal Music, and continued its evolution with Ghosts in 2016, where its rock opened up to a broader production without losing its blues rock core. In 2018, the band released the EP Plastic Oceans, before Something Special in 2019. Over the years, The Riptide Movement has performed in venues as well as festivals, in Ireland as well as internationally, with a repertoire that blends band energy, accessible melodies and the tension between road rock, electric folk and subtle soul accents.
