Howlin’ Jaws

Formed in Paris around Djivan Abkarian, Lucas Humbert and Baptiste Leon, Howlin’ Jaws took shape in adolescence after Lucas and Djivan met in primary school and Baptiste joined them later in secondary school. The trio developed a rock sound steeped in British and American references from the 1950s and 1960s, ranging from rock’n’roll and beat music to garage pop and psychedelic flourishes. After a first EP in 2019, Howlin’ Jaws released their debut album Strange Effect in 2021, which established a taste for concise formats, clean riffs and vocal harmonies. The band then returned to London to record Half Asleep Half Awake, released in 2023 on Toe Rag Studios. This second album broadens the scope with more spontaneous writing, more varied rhythms and a greater role for psychedelic detours, without abandoning the trio’s direct core. In this still compact trajectory, Howlin’ Jaws asserts an approach to rock that blends sixties heritage, melodic sensibility and tightly knit collective playing.
