Carl Verheyen

American guitarist Carl Verheyen, born in Pasadena, California, in 1954, established himself on the Los Angeles scene, where he built an intense career as a studio musician from the 1970s onward before being recruited by Supertramp in the mid‑1980s—first as a touring guitarist and later as a full member both on stage and in the studio. Alongside his session work for rock, pop and numerous film and TV projects, Verheyen developed a personal artistic project blending rock, jazz fusion, blues and country, characterized by very articulate playing and a strong taste for improvisation. Under his own name or with the Carl Verheyen Band he has released albums such as No Borders (1985), Slingshot (1999), Trading 8s (2009) and Sundial (2021), alternating instrumental pieces with more melodic songs. On stage he favors tight lineups—often trios or quartets—that allow him to stretch compositions into long improvised sections. Long based in Los Angeles, he has also built a substantial pedagogical activity through lessons, masterclasses and publications on the guitar, reinforcing his role as a bridge between the worlds of rock, jazz and studio music.
