Matt Schofield

Matt Schofield, a British blues guitarist and singer, was born in 1977 in Manchester and emerged on the UK blues scene around the turn of the 2000s with a trio built around the Hammond organ. Later based between Europe and North America, Schofield developed a repertoire blending electric blues, blues rock, and touches of jazz and soul, with a strong emphasis on improvisation and the interplay between guitar and keyboards. His recording career began with the live album “The Trio, Live” (2004), followed by “Siftin’ Thru Ashes” (2005), “Ear to the Ground” (2007) and “Heads, Tails & Aces” (2009), which established him firmly on club and festival circuits. With “Anything But Time” (2011) and “Far As I Can See” (2014) he moved toward more song-oriented writing while retaining the open, jazz-derived structures. Longtime collaborator Jonny Henderson on organ and various drummers have accompanied him as he has toured extensively across the UK, continental Europe and the United States, alternating between trios, expanded line-ups and occasional collaborations within the international blues community.
