A
Formed in Lowestoft, Suffolk, in 1993, A brought together brothers Jason, Adam and Giles Perry with guitarist Mark Chapman around a British alternative rock sound that mixes pop punk, hard rock and post‑grunge, featuring very melodic choruses and direct energy. After an initial shift away from earlier, more progressive-rock‑tinged beginnings, the band released How Ace Are Buildings in 1997 and A vs. Monkey Kong in 1999—two albums that established them on the UK and European rock stages, notably in Germany. With Hi‑Fi Serious in 2002, A leaned further into pop‑format songwriting while retaining taut guitars and more prominent keyboards, before moving to a more frontal sound on Teen Dance Ordinance in 2005. The group then put activities on hold, with Jason Perry developing a career as a writer and producer and Daniel P. Carter, who had been the bassist since the late 1990s, pursuing media work and other musical projects. Returning to the stage from 2008, A resumed regular activity with UK tours, festivals such as Download and anniversary shows tied to A vs. Monkey Kong and Hi‑Fi Serious. In 2026, A added Prang to their studio discography.
