Moses Boyd

Born in London, Moses Boyd has since the 2010s developed a career located at the crossroads of British jazz, electronic music, Caribbean rhythms, and the soundsystem culture. A drummer, composer and producer, Boyd first established himself on the London scene with a precise and mobile playing style, fed as much by improvisation as by grime, Afrobeat, broken beat and dub. In a duo with saxophonist Binker Golding, he co-founded Binker and Moses, a project noted for its direct approach to contemporary jazz. Simultaneously, Moses Boyd has pursued studio and live collaborations with artists such as Sampha, Kelsey Lu, Little Simz, Four Tet, Zara McFarlane, DJ Lag or Sons of Kemet, which illuminates the openness of his musical language. His first solo album, Dark Matter, appeared in 2020 and weaves club pulsation, spiritual jazz and urban textures into a highly personal format. After several years of maturation, Moses Boyd returns with Songs For Sinners, announced as an album centered on voice and traversed by gospel, choir harmonies, electronic bass and influences drawn from his religious education as well as the London sound environment. With Moses Boyd, the drums remain the anchor of a flexible, rhythmic and collective music, conceived as much for listening as for movement.
