Georgia Anne Muldrow
Born in Los Angeles in 1983, Georgia Anne Muldrow has operated since the mid-2000s at the intersection of neo-soul, hip-hop, R&B and a jazz-infused psychedelic funk. Raised in a musical environment as the daughter of guitarist Ronald Muldrow and singer Rickie Byars, she developed early on a complete practice as a songwriter, vocalist, rapper and producer. After the EP Worthnothings and the album Olesi: Fragments of an Earth in 2006 on Stones Throw, she built an extensive discography that combines soul songs, spoken word, fractured grooves and more experimental textures. In 2008 Georgia Anne Muldrow co-founded the label SomeOthaShip Connect with Dudley Perkins, with whom she has also released several joint projects. Her path has crossed artists such as Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Robert Glasper and Madlib, who fully produced Seeds in 2012. Under the alias Jyoti she explores a more instrumental and spiritual side, notably on Denderah (2013) and Mama, You Can Bet! (2020). With Overload (2018) on Brainfeeder, followed by Vweto II (2019) and Vweto III (2021), Georgia Anne Muldrow continues a practice in which soulful songwriting is paired with hip‑hop rhythms and a free approach to arrangement.
