Joe Armon-Jones

Born in Oxfordshire in 1993 and based on the London scene, Joe Armon-Jones develops a language at the crossroads of contemporary jazz, funk, dub, soul and electronic music. Keyboardist, composer, producer and leader, Joe Armon-Jones trained with Tomorrow’s Warriors and then at Trinity Laban, in the same breeding ground as several musicians of the British jazz revival. His career is closely linked to Ezra Collective, of which he is a founding member, while pursuing a personal trajectory since Idiom, a duo album with Maxwell Owin released in 2017. He followed with Starting Today in 2018 and Turn to Clear View in 2019, two albums that establish a supple writing, nourished by improvisation, circular grooves and a marked attention to textures inherited from reggae and broken beat. Joe Armon-Jones also appears alongside Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Binker Golding or on the compilation We Out Here in 2018, a central landmark of this London generation. More recently, A Way Back, made with Mala in 2022, then Archetype in 2023, extend this approach by intensifying the dialogue between jazz, deep bass, syncopated rhythms and meditative atmospheres.
