Pe Werner
Born in Heidelberg in 1960, Pe Werner belongs to the tradition of German chanson, blending pop, cabaret and jazz influences. Initially active in theatre and cabaret contexts, she gradually made a name for herself on the German-speaking scene thanks to German-language texts focused on everyday situations, a strong narrative sense and a taste for wordplay. Her first full-length album, “Weiblich, ledig, jung sucht…”, released in 1990, established her voice as a singer-songwriter, while “Kribbeln im Bauch” (1991) confirmed her move toward sophisticated pop with often acoustic arrangements, carried by her clear voice and precise phrasing. Over the years she has pursued projects as a trio, in jazz line-ups and with orchestras, developing a repertoire that ranges from intimate ballads and narrative songs to lighter numbers, always text-centred. Alongside her studio albums, Pe Werner writes for other performers, takes part in stage productions and radio projects, and maintains a regular presence on stages in Germany and other German-speaking countries.
