Het Zesde Metaal
Rooted in West Flanders, the group Het Zesde Metaal has been developing a rock songcraft in the West Flemish dialect since the mid‑2000s, led by singer‑songwriter Wannes Cappelle. Built around a core of musicians from different Flemish scenes, Het Zesde Metaal blends indie rock, folk and intimate chanson-style songs, with a marked attention to everyday stories, rural landscapes and the finer details of local social life. The debut album “Het langste jaar” (2008) established dialect writing as a central feature, while “Ploegsteert” (2012) refined a broader sound based on spare guitars, melancholic arrangements and frequently restrained tempos. With “Nu of nooit ooit” (2016), the band pushed further into narrative territory, experimenting with more open song structures and a stronger group dynamic, before developing on “Skepsels” (2019) a palette where pop, folk and understated rock intersect in more elaborated compositions. A regular presence on club and festival stages in Belgium and the Netherlands, Het Zesde Metaal also occasionally works in theatre and Flemish audiovisual projects, maintaining as a through line an approach that keeps the regional language, close observation of reality and pared‑down instrumentation at the heart of its musical identity.
