Daan
Born in Leuven, Belgium, Daan Stuyven develops under the name Daan a project at the border of rock, pop, electro and dance, with a significant emphasis on moods of film music. Active since the late 1990s, Daan first releases Profools in 1999, then Bridge Burner in 2002, where a taut writing emerges, often sung in English, mixing guitars, electronic pulses and choruses with clear lines. Victory in 2004 further broadens this range, before Cinema in 2005, a collection of music composed for cinema and television, which sheds light on another facet of Daan's work. With The Player in 2006, Manhay in 2009, Simple in 2010, Le Franc Belge in 2013, Nada in 2016 and The Ride in 2022, the project moves between pop formats, leaner tracks and more cinematic-tinged compositions. Daan also alternates between English, French and occasionally Dutch, without changing this dark, elegant and rhythmic aesthetic. On stage, Daan operates as a band centered around Daan Stuyven, with several musicians depending on the period, and he also performs at major Belgian festivals as well as more acoustic formats, where the arrangements take a plainer form.
