Dogstar
Formed in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, Dogstar grew within the California alternative rock scene around the trio Bret Domrose (vocals, guitar), Keanu Reeves (bass) and Robert Mailhouse (drums), following a few lineup changes. The band’s sound sits in alternative rock with clear grunge and power-pop influences—distorted guitars, mid-tempo rhythms and a taste for melancholic melodies. Dogstar gained attention through steady club work and later tours across North America and Japan, presenting a set that combined rock energy with more introspective songwriting. Their discography begins with the album Our Little Visionary (1996), accompanied the same year by the EP Quattro Formaggi, and continues with Happy Ending (2000), which extended their alternative-rock aesthetic with post‑grunge overtones. After a long hiatus in the early 2000s, Dogstar reformed during the 2020s, resumed touring and writing new material, and released Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees in 2023, reaffirming the continuity of a bass–guitar–drums trio sound and a straightforward melodic approach.
