Choir Boy

Formed in Salt Lake City, Utah, Choir Boy has been crafting melancholic synth-pop since the mid-2010s, drawing as much from dream pop as from new wave and a lusher strain of post-punk. Centered around singer and songwriter Adam Klopp, the band builds songs carried by a vibrato-rich voice, melodic synths, clean guitars, and often slow tempos, shaping a contrast between luminous arrangements and introspective writing. Their debut album, Passive With Desire, appeared in 2016, establishing a world marked by nostalgia, teenage memories, and a certain tension between spirituality and everyday life. In 2018, Choir Boy released the EP Sunday Light, refining this blend of emotive pop and dark aesthetics, before extending that trajectory with Gathering Swans in 2020 on Dais Records. Active on independent circuits and on stages tied to goth, coldwave, and synth-pop cultures, Choir Boy sits at the crossroads of 1980s romantic pop and a more intimate contemporary songwriting.
