girl_irl

Based in Brooklyn after a childhood in Atlanta, girl_irl develops a project that sits between production, DJing and performance, rooted in an aesthetic they describe as industrial pop. Under this name the artist combines elements from techno, pop and industrial music, paying particular attention to abrasive textures and club-derived structures. Before releasing tracks, girl_irl established themself as a DJ in underground contexts and at fashion shows, where their selections mix mechanical rhythms, tense electronic builds and fragmented choruses. Since 2021 girl_irl’s singles have featured a deliberately detached vocal, close to spoken-sung delivery, set over punchy percussion and massive basslines, drawing common ground between experimental pop and dancefloor energy. This work extends to the stage, where girl_irl adapts these compositions into club-oriented sets, and a first mixtape has been announced for 2024.
