Dorian Electra
Originally from Houston, Texas, Dorian Electra has been developing since the 2010s a project that sits between experimental pop, electropop, hyperpop and visual performance. First noticed through singles and videos circulated online, Dorian Electra builds a universe where satire, pop conventions, historical references and internet aesthetics coexist in highly stylized forms. Flamboyant, released in 2019, lays the groundwork for this writing with dense electronic productions, very pop choruses and borrowings from glam, baroque and metal. My Agenda (2020) accentuates the project's more abrasive side, taking a more direct approach to questions of identity, masculinity and digital culture. Fanfare (2023) extends this trajectory in a more theatrical direction, still marked by a mixing of registers and textures. Along the way, Dorian Electra has also multiplied collaborations with artists from alternative pop and the electronic scene, such as Charli XCX, 100 gecs and Pussy Riot, and has circulated this work on stages where pop concert, club and performance art meet.
