Naima Bock
Born in Glastonbury, England, to a Brazilian father and a Greek mother, Naima Bock grew up between Somerset, near Shepton Mallet, and São Paulo — a background that spans several cultural references. Initially active as Goat Girl’s bassist under the name Naima Jelly, she later moved away from that collective setting to develop a solo project with a stronger folk and indie orientation, characterized by acoustic songwriting, layered vocals and often restrained arrangements. Her early solo tracks, including “30 Degrees”, a cover of “Berimbau”, and “Every Morning”, accompanied this transition ahead of the release of Giant Palm in 2022 on Sub Pop. That debut album maps out a broad, stripped-back folk-song sound in which one can also detect inflections from a more pastoral and psychedelic realm. Naima Bock continued in this vein with the single “Lines”, and then with Below a Massive Dark Land, released in 2024 and preceded notably by “Gentle” and “Feed My Release”. On stage, she moves these compositions between a band format and more intimate interpretations, while remaining tied to the British independent scene.
