Danielle Ponder

Born in Rochester, New York, Danielle Ponder develops a writing style that sits between soul, contemporary R&B and trip hop, driven by a broad voice and an approach that blends emotional tension, slow grooves and dark textures. Before dedicating herself to music, Danielle Ponder worked as a public defender in Monroe County, a path often recalled in her public history and that accompanies her late emergence on the national scene. After several singles released from 2019 onward, she released her debut album in 2022, Some of Us Are Brave, where soul ballads, downtempo moods and more direct songs intersect. Danielle Ponder appeared the same year on American television in Late Night with Seth Meyers, then continued her visibility on stage with festivals and an increasing presence on the indie and soul circuit. Her journey also includes a collaboration with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad on "The Difficult Kind" in 2022, as well as a deluxe edition of Some of Us Are Brave in 2023. Danielle Ponder thus sits within a contemporary soul open to forms of R&B and trip-hop atmospheres, with a direct vocal and a production that favors depth of arrangements over flash.
