Valérie Lemercier
Valérie Lemercier is a French actress, director, screenwriter, comedian and singer, born in Normandy in 1964. Trained in theatre, she became known in the late 1980s thanks to several comic roles on television before establishing herself in cinema. She quickly won two César Awards for Best Supporting Actress, first for Les Visiteurs in 1994 and then for Fauteuils d'orchestre in 2007. Throughout her career she alternates between comedy, directing and one‑woman shows, developing a world marked by irony, offbeat humour and characters both elegant and whimsical. As a director she has made several feature films, including Palais Royal! and Aline, loosely inspired by the life of Céline Dion, which achieved significant critical and popular success. A versatile artist, Valérie Lemercier occupies a singular place in the French cultural landscape, between humour, popular cinema and personal creation.
