Clutch
Formed in the early 1990s in Germantown, Maryland, Clutch gradually established itself on the American rock scene with a stable core—Neil Fallon, Tim Sult, Dan Maines and Jean‑Paul Gaster. The band moves between hard rock, stoner rock, blues rock and alternative metal, shaping a sound built on massive riffs, a pronounced groove and often narrative vocals, with references to the blues, science fiction and popular culture. After their debut, Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes and Undeniable Truths (1993), their trajectory became clearer with Clutch (1995) and The Elephant Riders (1998), which rooted the quartet in a heavier, more psychedelic register. Records such as Blast Tyrant (2004) and Robot Hive/Exodus (2005) reinforced Clutch’s groovy, bluesy side, while the creation of the Weathermaker Music label in the late 2000s allowed the band to structure its releases and sustain regular touring across North America and Europe. With Earth Rocker (2013), Psychic Warfare (2015) and Sunrise on Slaughter Beach (2022), Clutch has continued to pursue an aesthetic where direct rock energy, jam‑derived improvisation and tight songwriting coexist, securing the band’s long‑term presence on metal, alternative rock and stoner stages.
