Claude VonStroke
Born in Detroit and active between San Francisco and Los Angeles, Claude VonStroke has, since the mid-2000s, built a central career within the American house and tech-house scenes. His approach blends clean grooves, thick basslines, a subtle sense of humor and careful rhythmic detail. He founded the Dirtybird label in San Francisco, an important platform for his emergence as a DJ, producer and curator of a club scene defined by nervous, off-kilter house closely tied to the dancefloor. His discography under that name includes Beware of the Bird (2006), Bird Brain (2009), Urban Animal (2014) and Freaks & Beaks (2020) — records where he moves between minimal house, tech house, electronic g-funk and touches of acid or bass music while retaining a strongly club-oriented structure. At the same time he develops other formats, including the duo Get Real with Green Velvet, and records as Barclay Crenshaw for productions leaning toward instrumental hip‑hop and bass music. Present in both clubs and on major electronic stages, Claude VonStroke’s career combines label work, Dirtybird parties and occasional collaborations with a stable, instantly recognizable sonic identity.
