Benin International Musical
Rooted in the Vodun traditions of Benin, Benin International Musical, often abbreviated BIM, builds a repertoire at the crossroads of rock, rap and several West African musical forms. The collective blends singing, chanted phrasing, percussion and guitars into a dense, rhythmic aesthetic where contemporary codes converse with Beninese spiritual and popular references. Benin International Musical has developed on stage, giving more than 150 performances across about twenty countries in Europe, Africa, the United States and Canada. This trajectory notably brought the group to New York, where they appeared at Carnegie Hall at the invitation of Angélique Kidjo. Along the way, the band also worked with producer Gordon Williams to record the single "Abobo." Benin International Musical thus occupies a singular space between rock energy, rap expression and Benin’s ritual heritage, without separating the performative dimension from its musical identity.
