Zar Electrik

Formed in Marseille, Zar Electrik brings together Anass Zine, Arthur Péneau and Did Miosine around a musical language that crosses Maghreb traditions, sub‑Saharan African heritage and electronic production. The trio relies on the voices of Anass Zine and Arthur Péneau, on instruments such as the oud, guembri and kora, and on a compositional approach that channels these timbres into forms of trance, dance and rhythmic repetition. Zar Electrik places its music in an open Mediterranean space where acoustic repertoires converse with restrained electronic textures and pulses closer to the club. The name Zar Electrik alludes to the zar, an ancient ritual associated with trance and healing — a reference that illuminates the group’s aesthetic without reducing it to a traditional reenactment. Over time Zar Electrik has developed on stages where world music, hybrid creations and electronic music meet, adopting a collective approach that favors the crossing of sources, the circulation of rhythms and the central role of voices.
