Broken Back

Originally from Saint-Malo, the Broken Back project is built around French singer-songwriter Jérôme Fagnet, who from the early 2010s developed a pop that blends acoustic folk, electronic influences and rhythms close to melodic house. Immobilised after a back injury, he began composing intensively and quickly released his first demos online, which led him to collaborate with producers from the European electronic scene, notably in the deep and tropical house registers. A first EP, Dear Misfortune, Mother of Joy, appeared in 2015 and established an aesthetic centred on guitar, luminous backing vocals and pop song structures rather than club formats. His first full-length album, Broken Back, was released in 2016 and gathers tracks halfway between anglophone folk and French electronic pop, before Good Days in 2020 broadened the spectrum towards a more album-oriented songwriting and more moderate tempos. On stage, Broken Back presents as a hybrid pop project, oscillating between vocal performance, group energy and light electronic arrangements, appearing on festival circuits and in general venues in France and internationally.
