Valtos
Born on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, Valtos brings together Daniel Docherty and Martyn MacDonald in a duo format launched in 2021. Their music sits at the crossroads of Gaelic traditions, Celtic fusion and electronic sounds driven by house rhythms. Valtos builds tracks from a dance foundation, layering Gaelic vocal lines, traditional melodies and imagery closely tied to the landscapes and history of the Hebrides. After their first concert at the end of 2021, Valtos attracted attention in 2022 with a remix of “Marx Terrace” by Peatbog Faeries, followed by the singles “Home” and “Ceòl Dannsa”, and the release of the album Valtos in 2022. The duo has since developed regular collaborations with artists from the Scottish trad scene such as Eilidh Cormack, Lana Pheutan, Project Smok and Julie Fowlis, while maintaining their blend of electronic pulse and vernacular repertoire. Performing at events like Celtic Connections, Valtos is part of a Scottish current that reconnects traditional forms through the club context, while giving visible prominence to the Gaelic language and local cultural references.
