Breabach
Formed in Scotland in 2005, Breabach is part of the revival of Scottish traditional music, blending Celtic folk, Irish influences and a vocal approach that gives space to both Gaelic and English. The group, now organized around a quintet, combines bagpipes, violin, flutes, guitar, double bass and bouzouki in a dense, rhythmic and direct acoustic sound, nourished by both traditional tunes and original compositions. Breabach drew notice from its early days on the Celtic Connections stage, then quickly developed a regular presence on the folk circuits of the United Kingdom, Europe, North America and Australia. Its discography traces this evolution with The Big Spree (2007), The Desperate Battle of the Birds (2010), Bann (2012), Ùrlar (2013), Astar (2016) and Frenzy of the Meeting (2018). Over the years Breabach has also seen its lineup evolve, while maintaining an identity founded on the balance between collective energy, roots in the Highlands traditions and openness to other colours of the Celtic repertoire.
