Peatbog Faeries

Based in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, Peatbog Faeries have been developing largely instrumental music since the early 1990s that blends Celtic traditions with more contemporary forms. The group centers its repertoire on bagpipes, fiddles and flutes, melding them with textures drawn from electronica, rock, jazz, reggae and occasionally danceable rhythms, while retaining its folk roots. Peatbog Faeries first gained recognition with Mellowosity in 1996 and significantly broadened their palette with Faerie Stories in 2000. From Welcome to Dun Vegas in 2003, released on their own Peatbog Records label, their sound evolved again with the introduction of sung passages and later a more regular role for brass on Croftwork (2005) and What Men Deserve to Lose (2007). Subsequent releases from Dust (2011) to Blackhouse (2015) and I See a World (2023) confirm this hybrid approach. Onstage and on record, Peatbog Faeries operate as a collective with a shifting lineup, situated between Scottish tradition, the energy of a folk band and an openness to experimental aesthetics.
