Info

David Krakauer's concerts are festive celebrations and collective trance in homage to the vitality of klezmer music. In this program, at New Morning on March 18, 2027, at 7:00 PM, David Krakauer presents acoustic versions of his original compositions mixed with classic melodies from the traditional Jewish Eastern European klezmer repertoire, as well as contributions from his longtime collaborator, Kathleen Tagg.

In 1995, John Zorn inaugurated the Radical Jewish Culture collection on his Tzadik label with a trio led by clarinetist David Krakauer. Klezmer Madness! sets the scene; the two words carry equal weight, and the exclamation mark takes on its full meaning. Three years later, David Krakauer released an out-of-the-ordinary work that would send shock waves: Klezmer, NY, in an electrifying sextet, propelling the tradition and the shadow of Sidney Bechet into the 21st century. In 2026, the clarinetist revisits this foundational repertoire with an acoustic ensemble and pianist/composer Kathleen Tagg. A look back at a founding act.

David Krakauer takes us on a journey to the far reaches of traditional Eastern European repertoires and original compositions. And of course, Krakauer, Tagg, and company also have a few surprises in store.

Artists:
- David Krakauer, clarinet, voice
- Will Holshouser, accordion
- Jerome Harris, bass
- Michael Sarin, drums
- Kathleen Tagg, piano, accordion, keyboard, electric cello
