Guillaume Perret

Born in Annecy in 1980, Guillaume Perret develops a career as a saxophonist, composer and arranger at the crossroads of jazz, rock, amplified music and improvisation. Trained at the conservatory in classical and jazz, he first draws attention in various collective projects before asserting a more personal writing with Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic, a format that foregrounds a very physical tenor saxophone playing, electric textures and a jazz approach open to rock rhythms and more experimental moods. The group's first album, Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic, appeared in 2012 on Tzadik, followed by Doors in 2013 and Open Me in 2014. Under his own name, Guillaume Perret subsequently releases Free in 2016, 16 Levers de Soleil in 2018, conceived around Thomas Pesquet's film, then A Certain Trip in 2020. Across his career, Guillaume Perret has also participated in recordings with musicians from French and European jazz, in contexts ranging from trios to larger formations. His music combines highly exposed melodic lines, a continuous breath, a taste for saturation and the construction of soundscapes that borrow as much from contemporary jazz as from a more frontal energy inherited from rock.
