For more than 30 years, Nils Landgren, the Swedish trombonist and vocalist known for his red trombone, has been leading his Funk Unit into a funk tinged with jazz, precise and physical. Twelve albums to date, and still that knack for tightening the groove, spinning the riffs, and leaving room for the choruses, between soul heritage and P-Funk machinery. With RAW (ACT Music, 2024), the group continues to chart its course without changing the recipe: a rhythm section that drives straight ahead, brass that snaps, and that onstage energy tailored to move people without forcing it.
On November 2, 2026, at New Morning in Paris, Funk Unit will perform in full lineup: Nils Landgren (trombone, vocals), Magnum Coltrane Price (bass, vocals), Robert Mehmet Ikiz (drums), Andy Pfeiler (guitar), Jonas Wall (saxophone) and Petter Bergander (keyboards). A concert conceived as a long flow of grooves, oscillating between tension, release and improvisation, where each musician finds their place in the collective.
