Info
Tigran Hamasyan has forged a highly personal musical language since his beginnings. An Armenian pianist and composer born in Gyumri in 1987, he was revealed at a young age (Montreux 2003, Thelonious Monk 2006) and blends contemporary jazz, the pulse of progressive rock, and Armenian popular melodies. His playing, both agile and intensely rhythmic, manipulates odd meters, ostinatos and a precise sense of improvisation. The result is contrasting atmospheres—between smouldering tension and melodic breathing—where the piano alternately becomes percussive and lyrical.
On stage, Hamasyan weaves dense harmonies and themes inherited from the folklore, which he reinterprets through contemporary textures. Following The Bird of a Thousand Voices (2024), an album inspired by an ancient Armenian tale, he continues an exploration in which modal colors, incisive counterpoint and organic groove answer one another without posturing or unnecessary effects. Tradition is not merely cited; it flows at the heart of the music, like a living substance.
Tigran Hamasyan will be at the Forum in Vauréal on 20 November 2026. It is an opportunity to immerse oneself at the centre of his universe, between Armenian memory and an electric present.
