On 28 February 2027 a quartet of string architects will take over TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht: Bernth, Charles Berthoud, Mike Dawes and Ola Englund. An evening of solo sets and crossovers between acoustic, prog, metal and solo bass, with a focus on composition and playing technique.
Mike Dawes (GB) brings his fingerstyle on steel strings: melody, bass and percussion at once on a single acoustic guitar. Between original pieces and clever rearrangements he moves effortlessly from instrumental rock to folk and pop. Albums such as What Just Happened?, Era and Galactic Acid define his sound.
Bernth (AT) comes from the world of instrumental metal and progressive rock. Speed and precision serve the theme; neoclassical lines, modern riffs and tightly worked structures characterize his set. His solo album Elevation sets the tone: technical, yet clear and song-focused.
Charles Berthoud (GB) places the bass guitar front and center on stage. Using two-handed tapping, chords, harmonics and percussive attacks, he builds melody, rhythm and harmony simultaneously. His pieces balance between rock and fusion, with a clear, readable form.
Ola Englund (SE) pushes the metal spectrum forward: tight grooves, massive riffs and an instrumental approach rooted in death, thrash and prog. Known from The Haunted and his solo work (Master of the Universe, Starzinger, The Chug Project), he concentrates live on tone, pulse and arrangement.
