The Hu

The HU bring their Mongolian “hunnu rock” to O2 City Hall Newcastle in Newcastle upon Tyne on 3 October 2026. Formed in Ulaanbaatar in 2016, the band blends throat singing and traditional instruments with saturated guitars and solid, modern metal rhythms. Early singles Yuve Yuve Yu and Wolf Totem pushed them onto the international map, leading to tours across Asia, Europe and North America. Their debut album The Gereg (2019) set the tone with guttural vocals, group chants and melodies shaped by steppe traditions, while Rumble of Thunder (2022) leaned further into the heavy side without losing that melodic backbone. On stage, The HU layer low harmonics and unison voices over riff-driven arrangements, shifting from hypnotic drones to martial pulses, with the twang and buzz of ancestral timbres cutting through the mix. Collaborations with artists like Serj Tankian and Jacoby Shaddix underline their bridge between Mongolian heritage and amplified rock, for a set built on contrast, texture and tight ensemble interplay.
