Info

Heaven 17 bring their Sheffield-born synthpop to Leeds Beckett Students’ Union on 23 October 2026. Emerging from the first split of The Human League, the group forged a sound that fuses new wave electronics with funk pulse and a touch of soul. Early on, they set the tone with political bite on (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang, before sharpening their melodic craft on Penthouse and Pavement. The Luxury Gap followed with Temptation, Come Live with Me and Crushed by the Wheels of Industry, tracks that still anchor their live sets alongside cuts from How Men Are and Pleasure One.

On stage today, Heaven 17 revolves around Glenn Gregory and Martyn Ware, a duo that balances warm baritone vocals with sleek, sculpted synths and basslines built for the dancefloor. Expect polished arrangements, analog textures and smartly updated versions of the classics, plus deeper selections from later albums like Bigger Than America and Before After. It’s a chance to revisit a catalogue that shaped 80s British pop while hearing how these songs land in the present tense, played with energy and precision in Leeds.
