Wet Wet Wet

Formed in the early 1980s in Clydebank near Glasgow, Wet Wet Wet established themselves on the British pop wave by combining white soul, orchestral ballads and radio-friendly pop rock. The band brought together Marti Pellow (vocals), Tommy Cunningham (drums), Graeme Clark (bass) and Neil Mitchell (keyboards), with guitarist Graeme Duffin joining in the studio and on stage. Wet Wet Wet emerged in the mid-1980s and released their debut album, "Popped In Souled Out", in 1987, characterized by a strong taste for soul melodies and singable choruses. "The Memphis Sessions" (1988), recorded earlier, had a more R&B-oriented sound, followed by "Holding Back the River" (1989). The band continued with "High on the Happy Side" in 1992 and in 1994 contributed a cover of "Love Is All Around" to the Four Weddings and a Funeral soundtrack, which established them beyond the British audience. The albums "Picture This" (1995) and "10" (1997) marked the end of their first period before a prolonged hiatus. The reformation in the early 2000s led to "Timeless" (2007); after Marti Pellow's departure in 2013 and the arrival of singer Kevin Simm in 2018, a new chapter began with "The Journey" (2021). Wet Wet Wet remain identified with melodic pop steeped in soul, sentimental ballads and rich arrangements, supported by a strong vocal presence and a lasting place in the history of Scottish pop.
