On 1 October 2026 at O2 City Hall Newcastle, The Wonder Stuff and Inspiral Carpets share the bill for a night anchored in late‑80s and 90s UK guitar music. Formed in 1986 in Stourbridge, The Wonder Stuff built a taut, melodic take on alternative rock, mixing sharp guitars with British pop hooks, then widening the palette with violin and banjo as Martin Bell joined at the end of the decade. Led by Miles Hunt across all eras, the band has carried that blend from The Eight Legged Groove Machine and Hup through Never Loved Elvis and Construction for the Modern Idiot, and later into albums like 30 Goes Around the Sun and Better Being Lucky.

From Oldham, Inspiral Carpets emerged at the turn of the 80s with a sound at the crossroads of indie, alternative and garage, steered by Clint Boon’s distinctive organ and early vocals from Stephen Holt, later Tom Hingley. The band rose alongside the Madchester scene, moving from DIY releases to albums like Life, The Beast Inside, Revenge of the Goldfish and Devil Hopping, with concise songwriting and a nod to 60s textures. Reunited with Holt, they returned in 2014 with a self‑titled record. Two histories, two signatures, one stage in Newcastle.
