The Wonder Stuff and Inspiral Carpets share the stage at O2 Academy Leicester on 17 October 2026. Two strands of British alternative rock cross paths for a night built on sharp songwriting and live energy.
Formed in 1986 in Stourbridge around Miles Hunt, The Wonder Stuff first rose out of the grebo scene before widening the palette with violin and banjo. Their catalogue runs from the taut rush of The Eight Legged Groove Machine and Hup to the pop bite of Never Loved Elvis and the more acoustic colours heard since the 2000s, including Escape from Rubbish Island, Oh No It’s... The Wonder Stuff, 30 Goes Around the Sun and Better Being Lucky. Along the way came Dizzy with Vic Reeves in 1991. On stage they stitch tense guitars to melodic choruses, sliding between amplified punch and folk-leaning textures.
Born in Oldham, Inspiral Carpets grew out of the late-80s Madchester moment, fusing garage grit, indie rhythms and a psych-pop tilt driven by Clint Boon’s organ. Early EPs like Planecrash and Trainsurfing set the tone before albums Life, The Beast Inside, Revenge of the Goldfish and Devil Hopping. The group later reunited with original singer Stephen Holt and returned with a self-titled album in 2014. Their songs balance direct hooks with a darker undertow and a 60s touch, built to get a room moving in unison.
