Info
On 29 September 2026, Opium in Dublin lines up a double bill with Cold and (Hed) P.E., two bands that shaped different edges of heavy alternative music.
Cold comes from Neptune Beach and the Jacksonville scene, built around singer Scooter Ward, the one steady member through many line-up changes. Since the late 90s, the band has navigated between alternative metal, post‑grunge and a hint of nu metal, leaning on thick guitars, restrained tempos and melodies carved for Ward’s low, vulnerable voice. From the abrasive debut to 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage, Year of the Spider and the later The Things We Can’t Stop, their songs carry a moody tension that shifts between weight and melody.
Born in 1994 in Huntington Beach, (Hed) P.E. mixes rapcore, punk, hip‑hop rhythms and flashes of reggae and ska, a blend Jared Gomes once tagged G‑punk. Early albums on Jive Records (Hed PE, Broke, Blackout) set the tone before a long run of independent releases like Only in Amerika, Evolution and Detox, with Gomes as the constant. Live, the band flips from heavy riffs to bounce-friendly grooves and melodic breaks, stitching West Coast punk attitude to a hip‑hop pulse.
