Info
On 26 August 2026 at Bellevue Teatret in Klampenborg, Danish saxophonist and composer Benjamin Koppel teams up with Maren Uthaug for Trut og Tegn. Raised in a Copenhagen family of musicians that links composer Herman D. Koppel to his father Anders Koppel, Benjamin has shaped his alto sound since the early 1990s. His work moves between contemporary jazz and chamber-like writing: clear themes, structured forms and space for improvisation. On stage he switches from trios and quartets to larger ensembles and one-off meetings with musicians from the US jazz circuit, the Scandinavian scene and the classical world, a collaborative drive he also documents through his Cowbell Music label. He also composes for theatre, film and television, where narrative and the dialogue between writing and improvisation stay central.
Trut og Tegn brings that approach live, with Koppel’s melodic lines, structured writing and open improvisation setting the tone, and Uthaug as his onstage partner. A focused musical conversation where ideas circulate, motifs resurface and the music breathes, true to Koppel’s taste for themed projects and cycles.
